In this project, our street paper vendor picks a favourite customer /or otherwise, reader can pick up a favourite vendor/ and we provide a workshop, where:
-reader helps to sell magazines for vendor
-vendor is teaching reader how to sell, about his selling techniques and routines
-after that, they share their selling impressions
-from that debate, they will generate a key word or a hashtag, if you like
-then they will receive an automatic camera (olympus mju) with 36 photos
-leaving selling pitch and together walking the streets and taking pictures following their key word/hashtag/
-each of them have a 15 shots
-because it is an automatic camera, with limited pics on the film, They cant have a second shoot and also they cant see how the pictures look like
-Nový Prostor editorial team is following them, helping them and capturing the moments for a report
-after the film is all filled with pictures, we all meet for a coffee and sharing
-result is 4 pages, with 2 pages with report how they sell and how it feels like and 2 pages with pictures they captures following their hashtag
We are hoping this will bring a creative way to promote vendors and create a platform where our readers and vendors can meet on a completely new, very personal level.
Also – we hope this is a great sensiting action, magazine readers can easily imagine themselves in a vendor´s position.
TANDEM 02
DATE: 25/10 2020
WHO: NP Vendor Alena and NP reader Františka
Františka is a young lady working in a nearby office and passing Alena every day, soon, they started to be more than just a vendor and a magazine reader and Františka is regularly buying every issue of the magazine or stopping just to say hi and chat. Our vendor Alena is one of our most experienced vendors, living in a hostel, ex-convict with some serious health issues – selling magazines is one of the few possibilities for her to get some decent money. Františka and Alena are both very communicative and as they find out there is a chance to join a redaction workshop, they both decide to do it.
Františka took a vendor’s vest and an ID, Alena gave her some advice about how to sell and promote the magazine and then, we left Františka for 30 minutes to be a NP vendor. She sold just one copy of the magazine, but she was full of impressions. Telling us – and our readers – how people are avoiding eye contact, how uncomfortable it is to stand in front of passing people in the vest and offering the magazine – any one can judge you as someone, who is in trouble and needs help. Also she mentioned how unsure were people passing her, because she was not fitting into the stereotypical version of a homeless person.
One of the strongest remarks our reader Františka had, was about a „body language“ of people passing her. How most people, who didn’t want to buy the magazine, started to walk faster or get around her. Alena is telling the same stories and remarks and both ladies agree that the „body language“ will be their hashtag, they will follow in a photo workshop.
Taking pictures took about 50 minutes, while taking pictures and trying to capture „body language“,, they were talking about their childhood, clothing, different experience with life difficulties. As they are both very funny, this Tandem and their conversation was one of the funniest.
Report from their meeting and workshop was published in Novy Prostor nr566, out on 12/11/2020, with circulation sold 14000 copies.
